Localhost displays a virtual space, as in a game, in which the viewer can navigate. By interacting with the virtual world, the days go by faster. I compare this effect to how we spend several days in a digital reality, living our lives in games or on our phones. Our lives – like life in a game – seem to go faster and faster; our sense of time becomes distorted. I chose to create nature-like landscapes to represent a sense of calm, or rather an escape from everyday life.

Localhost is intended as a gateway to a virtual world. The title localhost refers to the internal address of a device, often used in programming language to denote “home” or “self.” In this project, it symbolizes a digital space for introspection and personal presence – a virtual world. One can navigate this world by turning one’s head or raising a hand. In this way, the user gains a sense of control over his or her actions.
